3 Favorite nonprofits to support this Giving Tuesday

Table of Contents

We’ve recently set aside one day to focus on giving thanks. We’ve had two days with a focus on getting deals. Today, we have #GivingTuesday, a day dedicated to giving back. On the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, charities, families, businesses, community centers, and students around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give.

If you’re looking for ideas of where to give, here are some of my favorite nonprofits to support this Giving Tuesday – one that’s global, one that’s national, and one that’s local.

Favorite charities for Giving Tuesday

Shot@Life

A project of the United Nations Foundation, Shot@Life exists to help improve access to vaccines in developing countries. Unlike people, diseases don’t need a passport to travel, so vaccinating as many children as possible is the best way to protect everyone on the planet. Your donation of $20 helps protect 20 kids from measles. And with a matching program in place for Giving Tuesday, you double your impact.

Imagine the relief of mothers not having to worry about their children. It’s shocking to think that 1 in 5 children under age 5 around the world die from a vaccine-preventable disease. Your donations can change that and support children around the globe.

Other ways to give:

Bloom + Grace will donate TRIPLE vaccines for all jewelry purchased on Giving Tuesday. Or, get your flu shot, or any immunization, at a Walgreens on #GivingTuesday and Walgreens will donate TWO life-saving vaccines to Shot@Life.

No Kid Hungry

So much of this special holiday season revolves around food, from Thanksgiving dinner to Christmas cookies left to Santa and everything in between. But what about the millions of little ones who don’t have enough food? Childhood hunger impacts 20% of kids in the United States.

Every $1 donated to No Kid Hungry can help connect a hungry kid with up to 10 meals. If you make a gift on Giving Tuesday, Citi & La Brea Bakery will match donations up to $100,000. That means the opportunity to help connect kids with up to 2 million meals – all in just one day.

“What do Gene Wilder and Anthony Rizzo have in common? Both are connected to Gilda’s Club Chicago! Gene helped establish the first Gilda’s Club, and the Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation presented Kids Camp at Gilda’s Club Chicago this summer. If you’re into Tuesday Giving, any new or increased donations made tomorrow will be matched. Gilda’s has earned 4 out of 4 stars from Charity Navigator,” says my friend, Laura Weiler.

She and a few other friends, including cancer survivors, have volunteered with Gilda’s Club and they speak passionately about the impact it has had on them and the community. Cancer can wreak havoc on individuals and families, and I love that Gilda’s Club works to help those impacted. I’m especially partial to Noogieland, a special place in the main Clubhouse where kids and teens can be kids, connect with other children and families, and see that they are not alone.
