I was so excited to visit Vermont for the first time with my daughter and husband. We weren’t there long before we declared that we never wanted to leave. On our 10-state road trip, we stayed overnight in six different places. At the end of the trip, my teen and my husband both said that the Stowe Mountain Lodge was their favorite stay of the trip.
Here’s our review of Stowe Mountain Lodge with the reasons why it was our favorite.
1. Stunning scenery
The setting is simply breathtaking. Definitely take the gondola to the top of Mt. Mansfield, the highest point in the state.
2. The Lodge feels luxurious but comfy, too.
Stowe Mountain Lodge strikes a great balance of being a luxury resort but not at all stuffy. It’s easy to relax here, as it is so very comfortable in the best possible sense of that word.
3. Fantastic rooms
Our room knocked our socks off. We would have taken them off before sleeping anyway, but still. The floor to cathedral ceiling windows offered a breathtaking view.
My teen is still talking about the luxurious bathroom.
4. The food
The restaurants are wonderful, and if you’re in the mood for a splurge, the truffle fries were an otherworldly kind of good.
Also, you can visit the Skinny Pancake there. It’s a Vermont creperie, and we were big fans. Of course, they have Vermont maple syrup to enjoy on your crepe if you so desire.
The Cliff House at the top of Mt. Mansfield, which is a short gondola ride away, was a great place for lunch. I was worried that it would be high prices just for the view but the food was yummy and it was summer so we could sit outside. Enjoying Vermont cider on top of the state’s highest peak was pretty great.
4a. Maple Lattes
I would go back just for the maple latte at The Beanery. It was like Vermont in a cup. So delicious. I was up before the rest of my family and was able to sneak out for a walk without waking my husband and daughter. I hadn’t gone far before I saw The Beanery and decided to stop.
I figured “when in Vermont” and ordered the maple latte. So good. In fact, so good that I had two. I came back for my second with my daughter after she awakened and she liked it as much as I did.
5. Lots of ways to play.
Obviously, there’s skiing. Lots and lots of skiing. And snowboarding, and winter awesomeness.
But even if the snow isn’t falling, there’s much to do. Summer time features adventures like one of the longest ziplines on the continent. It’s 4,462 feet long! If you’re not feeling super adventurous, just taking the gondola to the top is fun.
We arrived rather late at night, but sitting by the fire pit was a great way to unwind after a day of driving. My only complaint would be that they turn it off at 10 p.m., and we would have been happy to stay much longer. It was right by the pool, and we were exited to splash around the next day.
Older kids need some play time, too, especially when on a long road trip. My daughter and I went for a walk and stumbled across the playground. It was empty, so she spent a little time climbing around.
I was sad that we didn’t stay long enough to take advantage of the spa. Next time!
6. Family time.
It was easy to spend quality time together here.
