Take a video tour of the International Space Station

Table of Contents

Have you ever wondered what the International Space Station, home and workplace of six astronauts that’s orbiting the Earth at more than 17,000 mph, is like inside? I visited  the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas for the NASA Social #Space Bowl program and while there, I got a tour of the International Space Station (ISS) mockup they have there.

The ISS is made of modules from different agencies. Our tour started in the module from Japan, moved on to Columbus from the Europe Space Agency, and then into the crew quarters. All astronauts use all the modules. Check out our tour of the ISS mockup:

I loved learning about the research taking place, from sequencing human DNA to growing cabbage. You can get instant updates from the ISS Research Twitter account here. For more detailed information (because 140 characters is tough) check out the Space Station Research & Technology website.

Our awesome NASA tour guide mentioned that one of her favorite research videos ever that she highly recommends is by astronaut Tim Peake on how to draw blood in space, which you can watch below:

Wondering what the ISS looks like from the ground?

It is the third brightest object in the sky. The ISS is pretty easy to spot from Earth if you know when to look up. For help with that, check out Spot the Space Station. It will even send you email or text alerts when the space station is flying over.
